Mapping SIENA

Amphitheater and concerts stage  at the Chianti Sculpture Park near Siena Do you want take a seat? No better week to visit the city of the Palio with concert season in full swing in and around Siena. Best of all, whatever your preferred style of music - y ou'll be able to get a bit of everything. 

The students of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana's  famous summer master classes finish off the course with a series of free concerts at the school's HQ - the beautiful Renaissance palace Palazzo Chigi Saracini .  Friday July, 27  5.30pm Students of the chamber music and guitar master course by Oscar Ghiglia 9.15pm Students of the flute master classes by Patrick Gallois.  Saturday July, 28 9.15pm Students of the piano and piano/chamber music master classes by Alexander Lonquich All concerts are for free. I know I'm repeating myself, but it's always a pleasure to get hold of free events in Tuscany. 

VIA MONTANINI BY NIGHT  is a summer event that has Siena's central Montanini road transformed into an open-air shopping center. Shops are open from 9pm till midnight and restaurants and bars make sure that you'll get a chair for a late-night cup or a glass of Tuscan wine under the stars.  But it's more than a night of shopping.  Traditional songs from Siena will be performed by Tuscany's folk music bands and make sure  you'll have fun during your night out shopping. What: Via Montanini by Night When: Thursday 26th of July, 2012, from 9pm to midnight.  Where: Via Montanini (check our Siena map), one of Siena's main shopping streets.  If you arrive by car, parking Stadio and Fortezza are close by and are for free from 8pm. 

During the Siena Jazz International Summer School, the city of the Palio is visited by a variety of great Italian and international Jazz musicians. And luckily for us, they will not just teach but also play.  All concerts will take place at the Enoteca Italiana, the wine store located  inside Siena's medieval fortress. Nothing better than listening to world-class jazz whilst sipping a fine glass of Tuscan red or white wine.  July, 24 - Roberto Gatto N.Y. quartet  July, 25 - Omer Avitai Quintet "Band of the East", feat. Avishai Cohen  July, 26 - Miguel Zenon  August, 1 - Diana Torto, John Taylor, Anders Jormin  August 2 - Steven Bernstein, Greg Osby, Michael Blake, Pietro Leveratto, Eric Harland   And last but not least all concerts are for free. The Siena Art Institute is hosting a series of events called stARTers - meetings with artists to talk about their work and their view of the visual arts or arts in general. This month's guest is German artist Stefan Schwabe . Participants at the meetings are welcome to ask questions.  Siena Art Institute,  Tuesday 17th July 6pm  stARTers - artist talks Via Tommaso Pendola, 37 -  Tel 0577 532001  Presentation in English with interpretation in ASL (American Sign Language).  The meetings are for free. 

The Settimana Musicale Senese is in it's 69th edition and will take place in Siena from  Tuesday 10th of July.  The festival - as the title suggests ( settimana = week) - lasts for a week and will bring five concerts to Siena's  two main theaters, the  Teatro dei Rozzi  and  Teatro dei Rinnovati.  Click through to the Accademia Musicale Chigiana for the detailed program of the city's summer classical music festival.  Teatro dei Rinnovati, Piazza il Campo 1 Teatro dei Rozzi, Piazza Indipendenza 15 Concerts start at 9.15pm.
