Do you want take a seat? No better week to visit the city of the Palio with concert season in full swing in and around Siena. Best of all, whatever your preferred style of music - you'll be able to get a bit of everything.

JAZZ
with the gigs of the teachers of the Siena Jazz summer school at the Enoteca Italiana. Concerts are for free and I can't wait to hear fabulous Italian jazz singer Diana Torto live on the 1st of August. Accompanied by the great John Taylor (piano) and Anders Jormin (double bass).
Details for all the concerts can be found on SIENA JAZZ

CLASSIC
The Accademia Musicale Chigiana presents yet another free event (I wish life was like this in Siena during the rest of the year). The closing concert of the masterclass in composition "Progetto Opera" will be held at Teatro Rozzi on Tuesday 31st of July. Giorgo Battistelli's students traveled to Siena from every corner of the world. The Chigiana and the main sponsor Monte dei Paschi bank make sure there trip was worth it by giving them the chance to see and above all hear their works performed immediately in front of a knowledgeable audience.
On the 3rd of August Siena will have the honor to have great Italian pianist Maurizio Pollini play three Beethoven Sonatas at Siena's Teatro dei Rinnovati.

Friday August 3, 9.15pm
Tickets 15 to 50€.
Information and tickets for both events: CHIGIANA

GOSPEL
You've got a soft spot for the combination of visual art and life music? The program of the Chianti Sculpture Park is tailor-made for you then. The hills around Pievasciata in the Chianti (a short drive to the North from Siena) are home to one of Tuscany's finest sculpture parks. But its more than beautiful trees and inspiring art. The amphitheater of the Chianti Sculpture Park makes for a perfect performance center. The Vocal Sisters will give their take on gospel and spirituals on the 31st of July. More concerts to follow all through August.

Even if you came to Siena for art not shopping - it will be hard to resist all the leather bags, Italian shoes and designer sunglasses on via Montanini, Banchi di Sopra and Via di Città - the main roads making up Siena's corso or high street.  Pilgrims, merchants and the clergy travelling to Rome already did their shopping and money changing on these roads 800 years ago, so just follow in their footsteps for a break from the best museums  in town.  CLOTHES - ITALIAN FASHION A GOGO Many of the brand names and stores won't be new to you. Most of them can be found in every bigger Italian town, and some of them all over the world.  BENETTON: a must. No other Benetton store is looking anything like the one in Siena. BEST PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES IN SIENA

Siena sports some of the most photographed sights in the world and you won't need a map to find them. But apart of piazza del Campo and the famous cathedral you'll be able to hunt down  countless lesser known  churches, museums and sunset spots which are off  the main tourist track. BEST PANORAMA VIEWS OF SIENA A nice sight in its own right, the walls of Siena's Medici fortress are also a great location for panorama shots which include the  San Domenico church, the cathedral and a big slice of Siena. For a close-up of the same panorama walk on to the rear side of  the  San Domenico  church, which is  de dicated to  Saint Catherine . Even without a fancy wide angle you'll be able to pack the cathedral its never finished extension and Torre del Mangia into one pick.
